I think the true worth of a person can be measured by his/her willingness to learn. There is something admirable in the admission of ignorance with a desire to learn. For this year’s first “Person of the Month” we look at Christopher Legaspi; AMP’s Marketing Officer and one of the most humble people I’ve ever known.
If you’re a new member, and you want to make something of yourself, follow Chris Legaspi’s example. As a freshman, Chris came into AMP without a single idea as to what he should do. He tried auditioning, but decided to stay in the marketing department in line with his course. He felt that this was where he could help the most.
Now, there are a lot of things that can make a person great. Some people are naturally talented, while other people are thrust into situations where they are forced to be so. I am not shooting down the fact that Chris is talented, but I think what made him a key member of the Ateneo Musicians’ Pool was his determination. Humiliation, and fear of making mistakes; these are just two of the many consequences to trying, but Chris Legaspi trudged through them. As a new member, Chris Legaspi asked questions, he tried, he was scolded, he was humiliated, but he never gave up. He was always willing to work, and that is where he learned. Unless hampered by more important responsibilities, Chris Legaspi would never shy from work. He was never lazy or unwilling. Under the tutelage of Verns Feleo and Axel Sycaoyao, Chris Legaspi learned the ropes of marketing in AMP, and is getting better every day. Also, it helps if you smile a lot.
So if you are a freshman, a new member in AMP, or both, follow Chris Legaspi’s example. There are always people in AMP who are willing to teach, you just have to be willing to learn.
Get to know Chris. Sit at the bench. Talk to him, and learn from him.
