A Powerful Kick-off

KABLAMP
Is it better to inspire or to require? I say, is it too much to ask for both?
Being a part of ((aMp)) calls for more than just singing or merrymaking. Despite
the chill aura that The Bench gives off, there’s actually a lot of work to be done,
and in this little family, we help each other out. Last November 14, ((aMp)) held
its first GA of the second semester called KablaMp, and needless to say, it was
one hell of a call to arms.
The event couldn’t have gone any smoother; starting out with an opening
prayer and continuing on to an awkward skit about the projects of Music 101,
coupled with some hilariously nervous acting. Gab Cabangon and Anj Florendo explained the mechanics of
events such as the Soloist’s night, the ((aMp)) Harana, the Music 101 class, and
of course, the year-long awaited Recital. Apparently, they hoped to tap the—I-I
mean… tap into the 1st year ((aMp)) members.
Other major ((aMp)) projects such as the aMplitube, aMplitunes, and
aMplitude came into focus as well. Vicky Marquez and Kara Chung gave a concise explanation of how
things are going to work for the next five months. Camp
Unity, a major event that ((aMp)) holds annually, was also mentioned. Basically, it’s just like Camp
Rock but without the guy pop stars whose jeans are way too tight, if you know
what I mean. Unless… you want to dress like that, in which case I have
absolutely nothing against it.
Although the event itself is jam-packed with performances from fellow org-
mates, it wouldn’t have been as entertaining without the host, Mr. Miko, I mean
come on; you have to give the man credit. His upbeat attitude and lighthearted
humor helped push on with the show in spite of numerous technical difficulties.
Good show sir, good show.
As the ballot volunteering process for the future projects began, the event was wrapped up with
the hauntingly beautiful melodies of the Beauty and the Beats. They performed
with harmonies so tight; you’d wonder if they ever got claustrophobic. And as the
last Departments set out to cast their ballots, the soloists took the stage with their
rendition of “Breakeven.” With voices as smooth as butter, they would have your
hearts melting by the end of the song; no wonder they got into AM.
Sure, ((aMp)) is extremely adept at sitting in the benches and merry-
making all day. But when work needs to be done, we get it done. So let’s try to
end this semester not with a Bang, but with a KablaMp!!
